We believe that providing a safe, comfortable, and clean environment for our residents leads to more positive experiences and increases the likelihood that residents will live in the community longer. This creates a virtuous circle that allows us to profitably grow our business, in turn creating more opportunities for our residents and associates. As a result, promoting the well-being of our residents is a central focus for all of us at Essex and something that we work on every day.

    To ensure we understand and meet or exceed resident needs, we monitor resident satisfaction through a variety of dedicated third-party surveys. We review these survey results continually and in detail at multiple levels within our organization to make sure we understand and can address issues that stand in the way of meeting or exceeding resident expectations.

    Fostering community amongst residents to create healthy communities is a core goal at Essex. We provide healthy and safe spaces, and all of our communities include common spaces that are designed to encourage resident gatherings and provide opportunities to build connections to each other. We link residents via a wide range of community events including poolside yoga, CPR classes and cooking classes. Events strengthen community ties and create more satisfied and engaged residents.

    We take our residents' health and well-being seriously. For example, we take steps to improve indoor air quality and eliminate harsh chemicals, provide smoke-free areas, use low- or no-VOC paints, mandate green cleaning products, and install carpets that are Green Label Plus certified. Additionally, most of our buildings include fitness or swimming facilities to help residents stay active close to their homes.

    We understand that our residents need to travel to work, to visit family, or to shop. We seek to own communities that benefit from public transportation, major thoroughfares, and shopping areas to minimize our residents' impact on the environment. We also offer Zipcars, electric car charging stations, and bicycle storage at some of our properties, and are always looking for opportunities to further expand efficient mobility programs.

  • Request and act on feedback from residents through various satisfaction surveys
  • Provide an extensive and varied program of resident events to foster community
  • Inform residents about energy and water efficiency initiatives they can undertake in their homes to reduce their energy usage, utility bills and their impact on the environment
