    We understand the importance of work-life balance and recognize that happy, healthy associates maximize productivity and effectiveness in the long term. We value and reward Essex Associates for teamwork and ownership of problems, and encourage their engagement. Essex initiated an employee engagement survey in 2016; the response rate was 82% and reflected an average of 78% highly satisfied employees.

    We aim to recruit the most capable people for each open position. We value our team members and support associates, striving to help, teach, and mentor them, providing the opportunity to qualify for higher-level positions and pursue new opportunities. We teach them what needs to be done and hold them accountable, knowing that this approach prepares them for higher level positions. We acknowledge and celebrate each time an associate is promoted.

    HEALTH AND SAFETY

    In 2017 we launched Health Hero, an interactive and social wellness platform with a mobile app that tracks and records healthy behavior. Health Hero allows users to earn reward points and credit toward lowering their individual medical premiums for the upcoming year.

    In 2016, we updated our employee health and safety program with the implementation of an Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP). The IIPP works in conjunction with the essential components of our Company safety policy. A comprehensive policy that states, for example, that every associate is obliged to report any unsafe condition or accident so that prompt corrective actions can be taken. Associates may not undertake a job or operate (heavy) machinery until he/she is informed properly and has received authorization to carry out the work. Additionally, any work-related injury or illness sustained by a colleague, resident, vendor, or guest must be reported immediately to a manager.
